Waterside Westies

Waterside Westies began in April 2024 with a vision of bringing a strong and vibrant West Coast Swing community back to the North Shore. Based at the Knights of Columbus in Wakefield, Waterside offers dancers a spacious wood dance floor, convenient access from Boston and surrounding communities, and plenty of off-street parking.

Originally founded by Eric Cudmore and Joe Mahoney, Waterside Westies helped establish Wakefield as a home for West Coast Swing and laid the foundation for a growing local dance community.

In December 2025, the Waterside Westies torch was passed to Saya Suzaki and Roberto Corporan, who have brought their own energy, experience, and approach to Thursday nights in Wakefield.

With more than a decade of experience in West Coast Swing competition, training, and teaching, Saya and Roberto focus on helping dancers understand not simply what to dance, but how and why the dance works. Their teaching goes beyond patterns, emphasizing technique, connection, movement, partnership, musicality, and the skills that help dancers become more confident and expressive on the social floor.

Waterside also gives dancers something especially valuable: time and space to practice. During the evening, dancers can choose between additional instruction and dedicated practice time, creating an environment where they can explore concepts, work with different partners, ask questions, and put what they are learning into action.

Boston Westie is proud to support Waterside Westies and the continued growth of West Coast Swing throughout Greater Boston and the North Shore.

 

While Boston Westie brings our community together for our monthly Saturday dances, Waterside Westies provides another opportunity to learn, practice, connect, and dance on Thursday nights in Wakefield.

​

Together, we're helping create more places for dancers of every level to feel welcome, continue growing, and most importantly, dance.
